It is summertime in a blue-collar, marginal district of a city in the South of Spain. Tano, a teenager currently serving a sentence in a juvenile reform center, is given a 48-hour leave to attend his brother's wedding. Together with his best friend Richi, Tano plans to enjoy his 48-hour pass to the limit, doing all the things he is normally prohibited from doing. He gets drunk, takes drugs, steals, has sex and hangs out with his buddies. He feels free and exerts that freedom with all the force and audacity of a teenager. By the end of his 48-hour pass, Tano has also witnessed the collapse of all the things he takes for granted in his life: the neighborhood, his family, friends and loved-ones - everything is somehow different for him. More than just two days of freedom, Tano's leave turns out to be a journey into maturity.

30 Basque terrorists escape from prison in Segovia not long after Franco dies (1975) and make their way to the French border. They dig a tunnel out of the prison and flee into the mountains without too much difficulty, but then after some help from a truck driver, the French border patrols spot them as they continue on foot. Some are picked up and brought back to prison, others escape to France, and among those escapees, one is telling this story in 1977, just before King Juan Carlos extended an amnesty to all 30 and they were released. It would seem that the Basque separatist movement was behind the 30 men, yet the reasons for their original incarceration are never made quite clear.

Told from a four-year-old's perspective, this film explores one day in the life of Quico, the child of a middle-class Madrid family. His adored father fought with Franco's troops against the Republicans, and never tires of telling the boy stories of his exploits. Individualist Spanish filmmaker Jose Luis Guerin spent a year and a half filming what happened as a new apartment building was built in the El Chino neighborhood of Barcelona. Guerin eventually shot 110 hours worth of film, and the film distills his record down to a little over two hours. En Construccion focuses less on the practicalities of raising a building than the impact the project has on those who live in the neighborhood, including a teenage couple squatting in a nearby building, an illegal alien looking for work for himself and his son, and a neighborhood girl who becomes infatuated with one of the construction workers. The death of a stray cat and the discovery of a mass grave during construction also points to the tragic losses that are sometimes part and parcel of progress.

Born near Barcelona in 1893, Joan Miro was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona at the age of 14. In 1920, he settled in Paris where he met Picasso and fell under the influence of the surrealist poets and writers. Miro drew on memory and fantasy to create works of art that are visual metaphors of surrealist poetry. These dreamlike visions have a whimsical or humorous quality, but also appeal to an art of the spirit.
