This course is designed as an introduction to the entrepreneurial mindset, and to the creative problem solving tools and critical thinking skills necessary to successfully pursue innovation and entrepreneurial success.

Why use this guide?

This guide points to resources that you can use to

  • Identify an issue or problem you would like to address
  • Figure out which populations are most affected, learn how the issue presents itself in Minnesota and the Twin Cities,
  • Identify businesses that are already trying to address this problem
  • Decide what 'gaps' still exist in this environment

Identifying social issues

A social issue is a problem that influences a considerable number of the individuals within a society. It is often the consequence of factors extending beyond an individual's control, and is the source of a conflicting opinion on the grounds of what is perceived as a morally just personal life or societal order.

Your project will be to come up with an idea for a business that has impact and addresses a social issue
