Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Collection of Irish Poetry: Introduction

Lawrence O'Shaughnessy receiving honorary degree from the University of St. Thomas, 1996.

The Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Collection of Irish Poetry is one of the largest components of the Celtic Collection housed in the Department of Special Collections of the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library.  Among its holdings are numerous rare/scarce, autographed, and limited edition broadsides, books and literary periodicals by twentieth and twenty-first century poets from Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The collection was named in honor of Lawrence O’Shaughnessy (1921 - 2017), a former St. Thomas trustee and benefactor, who helped establish the university’s Center for Irish Studies and the Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Award for Poetry.

The collection continues to grow through generous gifts from the personal collection of UST Professor Emeritus of English, Thomas Dillon Redshaw.

The collection is cataloged and available for research use.  To discover materials in the collection, search the LibrarySearch catalog.  Use the St. Thomas Location facet in the left side column to confine your search to those items which are housed in the Department of Special Collections.   Please contact the Department of Special Collections to make an appointment to view the materials.
