Voting and civic engagement: Contact your Representatives

The Libraries' voting guide.

Your elected representatives

The politicians that were elected for your area work for you and they are able to represent you better if you communicate with them.  You should not feel shy or worried about contacting someone to talk about an issue that is important to you.  They won't know how you feel unless you let them know.

Whom should I contact?

Which elected official you contact will depend on the issue.  Think about what level the issue is at, is it a national issue, a statewide issue, or a local one?

Federal / National issues:

Statewide issues

City / Local issues

  • County executive (name of office varies by state)
  • Mayor
  • City council representative
