Legislative Advocacy: Getting Started

Overview

Lawyers engaged in public interest work must know how to navigate the legislative process.

Effective legislative advocacy requires: (1) an understanding of the legislative process, (2) the ability to discover and track proposed legislation, and (3) the ability to make views on proposed legislation known to elected representatives.

This guide will provide an overview of each of these three skills and will assist researchers in locating relevant resource materials on the legislative process at the state level in Minnesota.
