Adding Permalinks in Canvas

Adding permalinks to your Resource Lists is the best practice for including your Resource List content in Canvas Courses. It also ensures that the Usage Reports generated by the system will capture all the uses, and not just the ones from students who accessed the readings from the Resource Lists link in the left nav.

Permalinks exist at all levels: at the Resource List level, the Section level, or the Citation/item level.

Permalinks at the Citation Level

Click on the ellipsis next to the correct citation, and then click Permalink:

Then in a content area in Canvas (Page, Assignment, etc.) use the link in the editor to add links to Resource Lists. The links will link back through your Resource List to show any public notes or due dates you’ve added as well as to collect the usage for metrics reports on student engagement.

Here is an example of how to integrate Resource Lists links in the flow of your class in Canvas using a Page content type. Blue links in bullets 1-5 are from Resource List permalinks:

Permalinks at the Section Level

Click on the ellipsis next to the correct Section, then click on Permalink:

Click on the ellipsis to the right of your List Name to open List options. Click on Permalink below to obtain permalink for the List, or to the Course if there are multiple Lists, to use in Canvas.
