Library Resources and Services During the COVID-19 Outbreak: Print books and other physical materials

Library books, dvds, cds, and more

The library buildings are closed due to COVID-19 safety precautions, but we can still loan you physical materials if you are able to come to the library to pick them up.  Here is what you need to know:

University of St. Thomas Library Physical Materials

The library buildings are closed due to COVID-19 safety precautions, but we can still loan you physical materials if you are able to come to the library to pick them up. Here is what you need to know:

  1. Place hold request(s) for St. Thomas items in CLICsearch.  You must be signed in to your CLICsearch account (using your St. Thomas login) to place requests.  If the item has no request option, it cannot be requested. Call if you’d like assistance: (651) 962-5494. Sorry, no walk-up requests can be accepted. Only library staff may be in the library buildings at this time.
  2. Wait to receive an email in your St. Thomas email inbox letting you know your request is ready to be scheduled for pickup. The email will include instructions about the pickup location and how to arrange a pickup time. * Note that we currently have no courier service to deliver books between the different libraries, so you will have to pick up items from their home library location.
  3. Call to schedule a pickup time between 10 AM and 2 PM Monday through Friday. It may take up to 2 business days to process your request. Same-day service is unlikely.
  4. Come to the library location to pick up materials, and follow the instructions you’ve been provided via email to let staff know you are here to pick up your materials. Procedures may vary depending on pickup location.
  5. Follow instructions to return materials. Books can be deposited in the book drops at the OSF and Ireland Libraries. Keffer Library items can be returned where they were picked up. DVDs, CDs and other media materials must be returned between 10 am and 2 pm, Monday through Friday, please call the phone number on the doors to arrange the drop-off.

Please note:

  • We are following CDC guidelines on quarantining and disinfecting materials, but the ultimate responsibility for your personal safety lies with you. Books and media cases can be wiped down with disinfectant wipes. However, do not use disinfectant wipes on CDs and DVDs.
  • It is recommended to quarantine your items for 24 hours before use.
  • No walk-up requests can be accepted, you must request items through CLICsearch.
  • We do not have a courier service at this time, so you must pick up items from the library where 
  • Only library staff may be in the library buildings at this time.
  • Items from other CLIC schools are not available for request.
  • Circulation is currently only available for current St. Thomas Faculty, Staff, and Students.

Returning Checked out Materials

We understand that many people have books and other materials checked out and cannot return them.  Due dates have been extended, we do not charge overdue fines, and we have suspended billing for lost items until further notice.

Book drop returns

If you would like to return a book, you can do so at one of our book drops at O'Shaughnessy-Frey library.  There are two book drops you can use:

  • On the west wall between the library entrance stairs and the OEC.
  • On the south wall of the library on the side by the greenhouse.
  • Please do not return DVDs, CDs, or other media materials in the book drops and these can be damaged. To return media items, come to the library between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday and call the number listed on the front door to return items. We will open the door for you to drop them off.

If you are graduating and have library items that you can't return to the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library's book drops, please contact to discuss options for returning materials.

Library Materials from other CLIC Schools

  • CLIC Library deliveries have been stopped.
  • Due dates for material currently checked out has been extended through at least May 15.

​InterLibrary Loans

  • InterLibrary Loan requests will only be filled for books chapters, articles, and other materials that can be filled electronically. Due to many libraries being closed, requests will take longer than normal and may potentially take a very long time to fill.
  • Interlibrary Loan renewal requests can be placed via the below process :
  1. Log into your ILLiad account
  2. Go to "Checked Out Items"
  3. Click on your item's "Transaction Number"
  4. Click on  Renew Request
