Blackboard: Integrating Library Resources: Link to Audio

How to embed library content into your Blackboard course.

Instructions on linking to audio tracks

Scroll down or use these links to find the instructions for the database that contains your desired audio tracks, copy the resulting URL, and see the box in the right column entitled "Adding Links to Blackboard".

Linking to Tracks

To link to a track, in Naxos Music Library, do the following:

1) Locate the album in the database
2) Click the "Show Static URL" button:
show static url button

3) Now look at the track listing and find the appropriate URLs and copy them:

4) Paste a URL into the box below to add proxy coding that will allow the URL to work off campus:

Proxy Me

4) Copy the full resulting URL (right-click: copy shortcut on PC; Control-click: copy link on Mac) and paste it in an External Links box in Blackboard, a Word document, email, etc. for use. Off-campus users will be prompted for their UST username and password before accessing the resource.  Faculty members should test the resulting links in their final form from on and off campus to be sure they work before sharing with students.

Linking to Albums

To link to a track in DRAM, do the following:

1) Locate the album in the database
2) Find the "Permalink" label, right-click, and copy the link/shortcut:
DRAM permalink

3) Paste the URL into the box below to add proxy coding that will allow the URL to work off campus:

5) Note that this method will link to the album, so you'll want to add instructions on which tracks you wish students to listen to.

Linking to Tracks or Albums/Videos

To link to a track or full album/video in Alexander Street Press products (Smithsonian Global SoundOpera in Video), do the following:

1) Locate the album or track in the database
2) Click "Embed/Link":

3) In the window that opens, copy the link or the embed code as desired:
link
4) Paste the link URL in an External Links box in Blackboard, a Word document, email, etc., or the embed code into a web page for use. Do not try to simply copy the URL from the browser's address bar as you normally would for a web site: that method will not work.
Off-campus users will be prompted for their UST username and password before accessing the resource.  Faculty members should test the resulting links in their final form from on and off campus to be sure they work before sharing with students.

Adding Links to Blackboard

Once you have the durable URL described in the previous steps, it's a snap to place it in Blackboard:

  • copy the URL as described above
  • open Blackboard in Edit Mode, and either create a new or use an existing content area (menu item).
  • within the content area, go to the "Build Content" menu and select "Web Link."

  • this will open a form.  Paste the URL in the appropriate field, add a name (title) and description (perhaps instructions on which video segments to watch, details on the assignment, etc.). We suggest also scrolling down to Options and selecting the radio button to "Open in New Window."  Then select an other desired options, and hit the Submit button.

 Add URL

  • That's it, you're done!
  • If you like, instead of using the URL content area, you can instead paste the link into an "Item" content area, your syllabus, etc.
