In this section, we’re going to go through the process of “building” a citation for the three types of material that you’ll be using most often: cases, statutes and regulations. We’re going to assume that you’ve gone through Steps 1 and 2 of the Step-by-Step Approach and that you’re now ready to apply the rule. In building a citation we’re going to look at:
· The raw material – screenshots of cases, statutes and regulations from paper copies and databases
· The tools – the relevant rules and tables that you’ll be using
· The process – applying the rules and using the tables
· The final product – the properly formatted citation
