Leadership: Keywords: Tips

Researching leadership in the library

Search Terms & Keywords

Leadership is a multidisciplinary subject and when the keyword "Leadership" is searched in a database the search results can be very broad. Generally these results are too broad to be relevant in graduate level research.

Using more specific keywords and search terms can help you find relevant resources faster. Not sure what to search? Use this page to find some suggestions and don't be afraid to limit your search results by date or by adding more keywords. Consider this example:

"Organizational Culture" AND (women or gender) AND executive*

"Putting a phrase in Quotes" Putting a phrase in quotes forces the databases to search for the words as a phrase, instead of as individual words. This is helpful with phrases like "solar panels" and "home owner" where the phrase means something specific that differs from the meaning of the individual words
Adding an asterisk to the end of a word*

Adding an asterisk to the end of a word asks the database to use variable endings of the word as the keyword. For example, teach* becomes "teaching", "teaches", "teacher" in addition to being "teach"

AND, OR, NOT Boolean operators are embedded database coding that asks that database to look for keywords together by combining them (Organization AND Executive) or asks a database to specifically exclude a specific term from the search (Organization NOT Company)
